About Village Flutes

Village Flutes exists to share my passion for the Native American Style Flute with others. My mission is to create handcrafted, affordable, high quality instruments that you can use to express the songs in your heart. I believe, as is inscribed on an opera house in Germany, “God gave us music that we might pray without words.”

Village Flutes are created from a solid piece of wood, unlike many other flutes where the wood is split in half, hollowed out, and glued back together. There are no glue seams, so there is no way for the flute to split due to excessive moisture or warping of the wood.

Village Flutes are finished with an all-natural non-toxic combination of oils and waxes. The finish is clear in order to enhance the natural beauty of the wood, and it provides low maintenance protection for your instrument.

Village Flutes are voiced and tuned to be performance quality. The sound is full and rich, and there is minimal breathiness.

Village Flutes are created from beautiful handpicked pieces of wood, both domestic and exotic.

Village Flutes must be up to my high standards of sound and appearance. If the flute is not something that I would buy myself for my own personal collection, I won't sell it to you. I firmly believe that flutes must be of the highest quality, even for beginners, so that you can enjoy creating beautiful music while avoiding the frustrations that I experienced with the first flute I purchased.

If you have any questions about my flutes, please feel free to contact me. If you're looking for something specific that you don't see here, whether it's a particular wood or key or design, please contact me as I may be able to make it for you.

If you would like to hear a flute before purchasing, I can play it for you over the phone or email you an MP3. I will not amplify or alter the music in any way so you know exactly what you are getting.

NOTE: Although I do have Native American ancestry, I am not an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe. Therefore, Village Flutes are not “Native American Made” as defined by the Federal Government or the Indian Arts and Crafts Act. If it is your desire to own a flute made by an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe, I am happy to recommend other flutemakers.
